1/8/2021: TELL THE SENATE TO

CONVICT TRUMP

On January 6th, 2021, a group of armed rioters stormed and occupied the US Capitol building in a deliberate attempt to disrupt Joe Biden’s certification as the 46th President. The rioters echoed lies and conspiracy theories promulgated by Trump and his allies, who have insisted the election was stolen from Trump despite an utter lack of evidence. In stark contrast to law enforcement’s militaristic response to the Black Lives Matter protests throughout 2020, and despite extensive online warnings about the pending assault, Capitol Police did little to stop the terrorist attack.

The violent takeover of the Capitol building is nothing short of an attempted coup, a deliberate effort to override the will of the people. Rather than condemning this sedition, however, Donald Trump doubled down on the lie that the election was stolen from him and told the insurrectionists, “We love you”. Trump also refused to deploy the D.C. National Guard. Vice President Pence approved the order hours later.

The House voted 231-197 to to impeach Trump charging President Trump with “high crimes and misdemeanors” for inciting supporters to assault the Capitol. Now we are calling on the Senate to immediately begin a trial to convict trump. Call your Senators now to tell them to urge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to reconvene Congress now.

SCRIPT

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, STATE].

I'm calling to urge Senator [NAME] to immediately demand that Mitch McConnell begin an impeachment conviction trial before Inauguration Day. His vocal support of the armed rioters who stormed the Capitol is sedition, and his continued presence in office will only fuel additional violence by pro-Trump terrorists.

Thank you for your hard work answering the phones.

UPDATE

THANKS TO YOUR CALLS, LEADER NANCY PELOSI ANNOUNCED THAT CONGRESS WILL INVESTIGATE THE CAPITOL POLICE RESPONSE TO THE JAN. 6TH COUP ATTEMPT

For weeks, pro-Trump extremist and far-right militias openly planned a violent riot and attack at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, yet it appears that Capitol Police catastrophically failed to plan adequately. While many Capitol Police did their sworn duty to protect lawmakers, and many were event attacked by the riots, some officers were filmed standing aside to allow the mob into the building, removing barriers outside for them, and even posing for selfies with members of this violent group.

Thank you to everyone who raised your voice to tell Congress to investigate this dramatic failure of security in the history of our Capitol. House Leader Nancy Pelosi announced that multiple House Committees will investigate the Capitol police's role during the attack.
